Mike P. Ryan writes heartfelt songs about the emotions and experiences of everyday people.  Born and raised in rural Oklahoma, Mike’s humble roots and keen eye for detail help him craft songs full of vivid images that one reviewer aptly called “honest portraits of real people painted on a canvas of beautiful music.” Often compared to Slaid Cleaves, Robert Earl Keen, and Jefrey Foucault, Mike has been described as “a master storyteller who takes his listeners on an unforgettable journey with every song”

Mike has won a host of prestigious national and international songwriting awards including first place finishes in The Mid-Atlantic Song Contest, The UK Songwriting Contest, and The Dallas Songwriter’s Association Songwriting Contest. He is a two-time finalist in The Kerrville Folk Festival's "New Folk" competition and has been a finalist in the Wildflower Performing Singer/Songwriter Contest and a winner in American Songwriter magazine's Lyrics Contest.

A gifted performer and a natural raconteur, Mike engages and entertains audiences at music venues, folk festivals, and songwriting events from coast to coast.  A particular favorite with folk fans, he has performed at The Connecticut Folk Festival, The Dripping Springs Songwriter Festival, The Wildflower Music Festival, The Tucson Folk Festival, and The Smoky Mountain Songwriter Festival. Mike has played and collaborated with a number of up and coming Songwriters including Jaimee Harris, Kipyn Martin, and Betty Soo. He has opened for regional and national acts including Michael Martin Murphy and Sean Watkins of Nickel Creek.

A sought after songwriting instructor, Mike frequently teaches songwriting workshops including his signature course: Painting Pictures with Words And Music. He is a frequent guest instructor at The Songwriter’s Association of Washington’s Songwriter’s Toolbox instructional series and the Artist in Residence at The Musician’s Workshop.A combat veteran of Iraq and Afghanistan, Mike volunteers with a number of veteran-focused charities including The Warrior Music Foundation. He also serves as a volunteer musician with Musicians on Call—a nationwide nonprofit organization that brings live music to the bedsides of seriously ill hospital patients. Mike’s debut CD, American Tales, was released in 2015.  His follow-up CD:  At Home In The Darkness is complete and slated for release in October of 2018.
